　Tategami Brick Warehouses（Weaponry Warehouses at Former Sasebo Naval District ）

 

 

 Weaponry warehouses were built at the entire Tategami-Nishi Warehouse area, which is currently a repair and supply facility of Maritime Self-Defense Force Sasebo, in order to receive and store weaponry that were made at armories in the center of Naval District during the first construction period. In this area, nine brick warehouses remain including a bullets warehouse and a rifles warehouse built in 1888, and a bullets warehouse built in 1912. As each warehouse has features of each era, it is interesting to observe changes from brick-made to steel frame-made warehouses.

Sasebo Naval District built such large-scaled warehouses, as one of their important missions was to supply to fleets. Among these warehouses, ones in the Tategami area were used to store weaponry including cannons.
