Remains of Sasebo Naval Station
Petty Officers’ Club & Former Sasebo Bridge

下士官兵集合所跡と旧佐世保橋

The Sasebo Petty Officers’ Club was a facility which contained accommodations, resting rooms, restaurants, bathrooms, education & recreation rooms, and so on. The first building was completed in 1902 and also called Kaijin-kai Club.In 1935, the new reinforced-concrete three-story clubhouse was built and used by hundreds of petty officers every day. After the Pacific War, the U.S. forces used this facility as their headquarters and called this CP (Command Post) building.

Sasebo Bridge was also called Kaigun (Navy) Bridge and played a role as a border between the naval property and the local community. The front security gate of Sasebo Naval Station was located near the bridge (around the current Sasebo Chuo entrance to the Nishi-Kyushu freeway) and access to the area beyond the gate was restricted.
