Mayor’s comment on the Cabinet’s decision on Sasebo’s transition to core city

Today, the Cabinet has decided on an order to designate Sasebo as core city.

　Following this decision and some subsequent procedures for promulgation, Sasebo’s transition to core city effective April 2016 will be formalized.

　I feel the weight of responsibility as chief executive officer of a new core city Sasebo.

　Faced with an era of a truly decentralized society which emphasizes municipalities close to local residents and regards them as playing a central role in local government administration, I will make every possible effort for further development of our city Sasebo and its metropolitan area, trying to enhance not only its administrative system and capability as municipality through the exercises of a wider range of authority, but also its local government functions and urban appeal as a hub city in northern part of Nagasaki prefecture as well as in the northern part of West Kyushu region.

　My fellow residents, I’d like to thank you for your continued understanding and supports for the municipality of Sasebo.
