Mayor’s comment about Mr. Keita Ogawa wins the 65th Grammy Awards.

Congratulations to Mr. Keita Ogawa on winning the 65^th Annual Grammy Awards.

Mr. Keita Ogawa, a Sasebo-born drummer and percussionist based in New York, who has been appointed as the Sasebo Tourism Honorary Ambassador since October 2017, has achieved the feat of winning of his third Grammy Award. 

On behalf of the City of Sasebo, where Mr. Ogawa is from, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations. The impact of new coronavirus infection that lasted for three years must have caused various difficulties in your music activities. I am sure that you are very pleased to have received the award for Outstanding Contemporary Instrumental Album.

It is a great pride and joy for the citizens of Sasebo to have on the Grammy Award, the highest award in the American music world, three times in 2017 and 2021. I am sure that it has become a bright news that gives energy and excitement not only to Sasebo but also all of Japan.

The city has decided to present the Citizen’s Honor Award to Mr. Keita Ogawa. We are also looking forward to having the wonderful performance in our hometown Sasebo.

I wish Mr. Keita Ogawa all the best in his future endeavors. Congratulations on winning this Grammy Award.
