The Imperial Japanese Navy Sasebo Naval Station 5th Torpedo Storage and Logistics Department Warehouses (Nishi-Kyushu- oko Company’s Maehata 1st Warehouse and Other Warehouses in the Hizukushi Area)

There remain nine warehouses of the former Sasebo Naval Station Logistics Department in the Hizukushi area. They were built during the period from the 1910s to the 1930s. Among them, Nishi-Kyushu-Soko Company’s 1st warehouse (former 5th torpedo warehouse), 7th warehouse (former shell warehouse), 8th warehouse (former weapon warehouse), and Nishi-Nihon-Reito Company’s Maehata factory (former shell warehouse) are especially big. It is rare that wooden warehouses built during the period from the 1920s to the 1930s can be seen together with these large concrete-made warehouses.
Powder was stored in the Maehata area and torpedoes, mines, shells were stored in the Hizukushi area. There was a powder charging factory between them. To meet Navy’s increasing requirements, large-sized warehouses were built from one after another in the Hizukushi area.
