The Imperial Japanese Navy Sasebo Naval Arsenal 250-ton Crane (Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. 250-ton Crane)

佐世保重工業(株)250トンクレーン

The predecessor of Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. was Sasebo Senpaku Kogyo (SSK) or Sasebo Ship Industries Company, which was founded by inheriting the facilities of the former Sasebo Naval Arsenal after the Pacific War. Many structures that can be seen from here were built during the Sasebo Naval Arsenal era. Among them, the most conspicuous one is a 250-ton crane standing on the wharf. It was purchased from the Sir William Arrol & Company of Scotland and its assembly was completed in 1913. The crane measures 63 meters high and its jib is 81 meters. Although it is normally called hammerhead due to its shape, its official name is giant cantilever crane. Only three of this precious model currently exist in Japan and only 10 exist in the world.
