The Imperial Japanese Navy Sasebo Naval Arsenal Memorial Monument

This memorial monument was erected in 1921 by Sasebo Naval Arsenal Blue Collar Workers Welfare Association to honor the spirits of blue collar workers who died in accidents in the arsenal. Though there were similar monuments in other naval arsenals, this dignified granite-made 10m one was the biggest. Some monuments were removed after the Pacific War, but this precious one is still in the same condition as when it was erected. Now this monument is maintained by Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (SSK), which took over the facilities of Sasebo Naval Arsenal after the war. It also honors the spirits of SSK workers who died in accidents after the company was founded.
