Remains of the Imperial Japanese Army Sasebo Fortress Kogozaki Battery

 

 

The first battery Sasebo Fortress built in December 1898. It was built inside Sasebo Bay to attack enemy vessels trying to remove the mines laid at the entrance of the bay and fire at enemy vessels intruding into the bay from close range. To accomplish these missions, four French-made Shneider-Canet-model 9cm rapid-fire cannons were introduced and autocannon platforms were also built. The battery was strengthened in preparation for the Russo-Japanese War, but never experienced actual fights until 1934 when it was abandoned.
